Things I'd Never Do

Hey world!

It's 8am here in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. I didn't post last night purely because I was completely and utterly exhausted. I got home and immediately wanted to be in bed. I had a completely and utterly fantastic day yesterday though!! Each day has gotten better and better.

I wanted to take the 9am tap class, so Neon drove me to school. We went on his motorbike.

That was the first thing i'd never do in America.

We went to this local eatery, where I paid 20 NTD (roughly 50 cents) for an egg roll to eat, and soy milk to drink. Now, this isn't like an egg roll in America. It is much, much better. It was hot, fresh, and tasted amazing! Apparently, the people at the stand thought both Neon and I were foreigners. Alas, it was just me. He just speaks very good english.

I went to tap class, and we learned the shim sham. It's a famous american dance that I learned several years ago! It was a nice refresher course, and every time i put on tap shoes, I'm a happy girl! <3 Soon after, the same group of people went to learn a piece of Singing in the Rain, the song, and I got up several times. I pretty much taught them the song. We all got split into groups to create a scene from the show, and my group totally used the fact that I knew the song and choreography from the show. A language barrier was difficult at times, but I had my own personal translator, Jasper, who made it a little easier. We had fun in our group. Not even a language barrier can stop friendship! :)

We went and had lunch at the student caf again. I had something they refer to as Hot Pot Soup.... and I didn't like it too much. It wasn't bad, and it tasted good, but during the next class, it didn't sit too well. Maybe i'll try it again when I don't have dance after. I had my favorite green tea, half sweet to drink. That is something i'll miss when going back home! That stuff is really really good!!

Next thing I'd never do in America. A traditional Taiwanese Dance. And sing in Taiwanese.

The class was called Special Topics. It was very cool, and I really learned a lot. We did a very elaborate warm up with lots of moving. It was very much like a modern class. Then, we started walking around the room very slowly, feeling every muscle and bone in our foot. We added on as we finished the first circle. Then, our teacher started singing around the room. A song I would eventually learn. It was so cool! I can't quite describe what moves we did because i've never done anything like that before. But it was very clean, simple, and very unified. We felt like a connected group! The teacher was amazing, and invited me to come stay with her and take class with her company. That was so, so, so cool. This was my favorite class so far!!!

I ended up going home for a brief bit, and taking an hour long nap. My friend and neighbor here, Yen, wanted to take me to a hip hop class in Kaohsiung at the famous Apple Studio. So, he came and woke me up and we went to class downtown! They had a special Japanese teacher coming to teach isolations. It was a very fun class. It was super fast paced. But...

That was the third thing i'd never do. Take hip hop. AND I LOVED IT!

I wasn't very good at it, but I did really enjoy taking a hip hop class at a studio. That was just way cool.

Yen and I went around and explored more of the city. He took me to a fruit market and a department store. The department store was 8 floors high. It was very cool, and had lots of names and brands I recognized, as well as several new ones from other countries i'd never heard of before. I also tried bubble tea, McDonalds French Fries, and sweet potatoes at the department store, and off the street before class. I tried watermelon, which tasted the same, Wax apples, which were SO GOOD, more guava, which I loved, and pear all at the fruit market. The pear tasted a big sweeter and crunchier. It was amazing.

We went home right after that, and I went straight to bed. I just woke up from a very deep sleep. Today, is much less regimented in schedule than many of my other days. I'll post tonight!
